The Eslohe Holiday Region

and the Schmallenberger Sauerland

Cobbenrode, a state-recognised climatic health resort  and part of the municipality of Eslohe, lies in the holiday area of the Homert Nature Park (“Naturpark Homert”). At 300 to 600 m above sea level, our region enjoys a healthy upland climate. The Homert Nature Park is the ideal landscape for guests looking for peace and quiet, relaxation and clean, fresh air to restore body and soul. With its small-town character, spacious parks, shopping street and historic buildings, Eslohe has grown up around its historic centre.

Cycling in the Sauerland

Whether it’s a leisurely family outing on the Sauerland Radring cycle loop, including the Bat Tunnel, an adventurous mountain-bike tour or an ambitious road-bike ride – the Sauerland has something for cyclists of every kind.

The SauerlandRadring

The new SauerlandRadring offers 83 km of cycling pleasure for families with children and leisure cyclists between Finnentrop, Eslohe, Schmallenberg and Lennestadt. Part of it follows a former railway line that is asphalted throughout. The rest runs along largely safe sections close to the rivers, through pretty half-timbered villages and deciduous and coniferous woodland, past lovingly restored reminders of the region’s former industry and crafts, small museums, quiet corners, attractive swimming pools and other family-friendly places to visit and stop for refreshments.

Away from cars, noise and traffic, it brings Sauerland nature, culture and history up close to cycling enthusiasts. You will rarely find yourself out of breath – but often amazed. For example at the two working mills in the Frettertal valley, which grind grain and bones respectively; in the 689 m long Bat Tunnel between Fehrenbracht and Kückelheim; among the steam-driven machines and tractors of the Maschinen- und Heimatmuseum Eslohe (museum of machinery and local history); at the exhibits of the slate mining museum in Holthausen; at the demonstrations in the wonderfully old-fashioned Hesse cutlery works in Fleckenberg; or at the Sicilia shaft in Meggen, where almost a quarter of the world’s pyrite output was mined just under 100 years ago.

The 40 km HenneseeSchleife loop links the SauerlandRadring with the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path (Ruhrtalradweg) and Lake Hennesee with all its leisure activities. We will gladly give you the new leaflet with detailed information on the whole route. Bicycles and e-bikes can be hired in Eslohe (at the mini-golf course, right next to the cycle path).
